Hard to date precisely but probably 14th century and from Bohemia, this very moving carved limewood and polychrome head of Christ with a Crown of Thorns was probably originally part of a massive Corpus hung in a church, as is suggested by the elongated downward looking face. It is much larger than life size at 15 1/2 inches high. It retains much of its original paint and whilst it does have some old filler, the face is untouched apart from some paint loss and old worm damage.
