A fine quality and large oil on canvas painting of a horse and groom in a stable. The bucket on the right bears the initials JC and the back of the canvas is inscribed "Jack the property of JC Esq.". The painting has its original gilt frame and lining and is in excellent untouched condition. On the giltwood slip is recorded "J.F.Herring Snr". John Frederick Herring was a renowned Victorian painter of horses as well as a sign painter and coachman (1795-1865). He had many famous clients including Queen Victoria herself and his best works fetch seven figure sums. 45 inches wide (on the frame) x 37 inches high.
