Dating to about 1500, this group of the Madonna and Child is shown in a style typical of the carvers of Malines at that time. The Virgin is shown with a braided head dress and long flowing locks and with the charming features that makes these figures so appealing. It is oak with polychrome and gilt decoration. For a Malines figure of St Barbara with similar features, see "Netherlandish Sculpture 1450-1550" published by the V&A, catalogue number 38.
