Dating from about the middle of the 18th century, this stunning comb-back Windsor armchair is only the third example to have appeared. A very similar chair is illustrated on page 328 of David Knell's book "English Country Furniture" where it is described as "An exceptionally fine example" and the only other one was sold in 2010 by Christie's lot number 59 in sale of The John Parry Collection and it cost someone £32,500. That chair was the subject of a very interesting article by Bob Parrott in the Regional Furniture Society newsletter in October 2010 under the title of "Sale of a rare 'two-faced' Windsor chair". Of generous proportions, the chair is constructed in ash and elm and has a very fine fretted crest rail and splat, a superbly figured deeply grooved saddle seat and cabriole front legs terminating on pointed feet. Circa 1745. 45 inches high and the seat is 23 1/2 inches wide x 16 1/2 inches deep.
