Dating to about 1780 and constructed throughout in well figured elm, this elegant armchair is almost certainly East Anglian in origin. It must have been made in a very good workshop and no expense was spared in its construction as most of the components are shaped rather than straight including the top rail, rear legs, arms, arm supports and splat which is pierced with a heart. The seat measures 20 inches x 16 inches and is made from a single board which must have come from a very impressive tree. Wonderful untouched colour, patination and condition. 24 inches wide x 40 1/2 inches high.
