Probably my favourite piece in the exhibition, this is a table of huge character. The three plank top is covered with ancient graffiti including various sets of initials and Hexfoil compass designs intended to ward off evil spirits (see Medieval Graffiti by Matthew Champion for similar examples). The three gun barrel turned legs have moulded outer edges. It is incredible that the stretchers have survived intact as the upper sides of the turning have been worn to less than half an inch in places. The colour and patination are wonderful.
