This lovely little early 17th century oak chest is a real collector's piece on account of the wonderful interior which retains its original block-printed lining paper incorporating the Royal Arms within the Garter. See Chinnery fig 3:403 which shows a chest with similar but less complete paper linings. Apart from this rare feature, the chest is itself is very good example with a well figured one piece lid held by its original strap hinges, nulled top rails, chip carved base rails and stop nulling to the legs. The sides and back are also panelled and it stands high from the ground. It has its original hasp and lock plate and untouched colour and patination. Circa 1625. 33 1/2 inches wide x 20 1/2 inches deep x 24 inches high.
