Constructed entirely in wonderfully figured ash, this pedestal table has a two plank tilting top, a turned stem and swept legs. Under the top it has a paper hand written label which reads "This table was bought at my father's (Thomas Priest) sale in May 1917 at Harborne. It was made by my mother's grandfather (about 1838) Thomas Farmer at Ibstock, near Ashby, Leicestershire. Alfred Priest 15 Trafalgar Studios, Chelsea, London. 1919." There is also written in crayon CHELSEA. Alfred Priest (1874-1929) was an artist who exhibited works at the Royal Academy and other galleries. He is recorded as working in 1927 at No. 15 Trafalgar Studios which were purpose made artists' studios in Chelsea. The table appears to be a decade or so earlier than 1838 but it may be correct. The table has wonderful colour and patination and is in untouched condition. It measures 21 1/2 inches diameter x 28 1/2 inches high.
