A dated James I oak chest with a triple moulded edge top held by its original strap hinges above a top rail deeply carved with lunette designs and incorporating the initials EP. The front has three arcaded panels behind which there are three applied panels with shallow floral carving surrounding the date 1620. At the base is a single long side hung drawer. The sides and back are also panelled. The quality of the carving throughout is of high quality and suggests a West Country origin. Excellent untouched colour and condition. 51 1/2 inches wide x 21 1/2 inches deep x 31 inches high.
