A rare pair of mid 17th century oak joint stools with double moulded edge tops secured by typical six peg method and with ring turned gun barrel legs. The seat rails are carved with type of stylized S scroll that is typical of Wiltshire/Gloucestershire. It is interesting to note that whilst the stools are an exact pair in every other way, the rails on one stool are only carved on the long sides and the other is carved on all four. See Bonhams recent sale at Oxford where a similar pair of stools fetched £11875.
