An extremely comfortable Georgian Windsor comb-back armchair in walnut and fruitwood with a broad elm seat. It is very similar to the famous John Pitt chairs (see stock number 8884) but does not have the outswept cabriole back legs. There is a similar chair shown in Bernard Cotton's The English Regional Chair figure TV15 which bears a label for "Richard Hewett chair-maker at Slough". A similar chair was sold at Wooley and Wallis lot 37 recently (estimate £3-5000). Feet restored. Circa 1765.
