A small and stunning Queen Anne walnut bureau bookcase with a double dome upper section with a pair of doors with their original arched and bevelled mirror glasses engraved with crowns (one with a historic crack). Behind the doors are shelves and below a pair of concave shaped drawers. The bureau with a stepped interior containing six shaped drawers, eight pigeon holes and a well containing a secret drawer. Below the interior are two short and two long drawers, a base moulding and turned feet. It has an excellent provenance dating back to 1926 when it was acquired by the owner of Groombridge Place in Kent (the setting for the film "The Draughtman's Contract"). He bought it from Frank Partridge of London and New York and it still has their label in the drawer. He recorded it in his Red Book and paid £370 (over £23,000 in today's money). In 1985 the house passed to his niece Rosemary Newton. Her passion was horse racing and her membership card for the Thoroughbred Breeders' Association 1979 is still in a drawer. 29 inches wide x 20 inches deep x 76 inches high.
