This wonderful oak and iron strongbox dates from about 1500 and has a lid held by massive iron hinges. The hasp, which would have been secured by a padlock, conceals a key hole and the box comes with what appears to be the original key. The entire box is strengthened by iron strapwork and on the sides it has iron carrying handles and there are traces of paint throughout. 26 1/2 inches wide x 15 1/2 inches deep x 13 1/2 inches high.
