Perfect for a house renovation or garden project, this lovely stone niche would have been built into a religious building such as an abbey or church. The central bracket would have had a figure standing on it, possibly the Virgin Mary and although weathered, it is in a beautiful state. It could be English or French and the the stone is certainly very similar to that used in the ancient Sibton Abbey here in East Suffolk (we keep finding odd bits of it in our garden and and the stone quoins on our 16th century inglenook fireplace were probably re-used stone from the abbey when it was dissolved in the 16th century). It measures 32 inches wide x 28 inches high x 10 inches deep.
