Probably intended to display glasses and ceramics and at the same time lock away small valuable items, this mid 17th century oak mural cupboard is probably from Yorkshire. The door is decorated with diamond shape inlay and the leaf carving on either side of the door is very similar to that seen on a mural cupboard in York Minster, illustrated in "Oak Furniture from Yorkshire Churches" page 50 (see photograph). The interior has a single shelf and the cupboard is in excellent untouched condition with superb rich dark colour and patination. 27 inches wide (on the cornice x 9 inches deep x 32 inches high.
