Of museum quality, this very moving and sensitively carved figure shows Christ sitting on the Cold Stone in typical pose, a representation that was popular in late medieval Northern Europe. Probably English from the last quarter of the 15th century the style is reminiscent of Nottinghamshire alabasters. The polychrome is original and the figure is in a lovely untouched state. Clearly made to free stand, it is carved in the round and at the rear blood can be seen seeping from the wounds of his flagellation. The figure stands 16 inches high.
