This very interesting comb back armchair is basically quite primitive but with sophistication of a fretted fruitwood splat incorporating a heart motif. The two piece arm bow, curved cleft sections of ash under the arms and traces of green paint suggest that it is of West Country origin circa 1770. The broad sycamore seat has lovely shape and the turned legs are pegged through to the seat and are extravagantly raked. The splat appears to have broken out of the crest rail which has in turn been shaved slightly to removed the damaged timber. It has lovely untouched colour. 41 inches high and the seat height is 16 inches.
