This beautiful stone head probably depicts the Virgin Mary and would originally have been part of a larger figure. Carved in hard stone, she is shown
wearing a veil and wimple and looks downward. A similar figure is depicted in the catalogue of the Cluny Museum in Paris on page 110. It is described as 2nd quarter of the 15th century and from Dijon. The head is 9 inches high and stands 17 inches on the later wood base.
