A top quality Charles I oak chest with a triple panelled top held by its original wire hinges. The top rail has carving incorporating the initials SS and below that are two panels decorated with demi-lune carving. It stands on good high legs and retains it spandrels. The sides and back are panelled and it retains its original bottom boards. The carving is typical of the fine quality work that one sees in Somerset churches (see Chinnery pages 414-415). Excellent rich colour and patination. 43 1/2 inches wide x 22 1/2 inches deep x 27 1/2 inches high.
