A very unusual oak wall box with a superbly carved panel back depicting a floral design. See Clive Sherwood Collection lot 297 for a chair with a very similar design to the back panel, dated 1651 and attributed to the North West of England. The box is of more crude construction and probably post dates the panel although the lovely colour and patination is regular throughout. The back is covered in block paper. It was possibly made as a candlebox. 16 inches high x 10 inches wide.
