This extraordinary box is encrusted on the top and all four sides with shells of different types but all which can be found on the beaches of Britain. The gilt brass handle on the top is in the form of a vase of flowers and the gilt brass feet are of lion's paw form. The box retains its original lock and hinges and the red paper with which the interior is lined also appears to be original. 12 inches wide 8 1/2 inches deep x 4 1/2 inches high.
