A pair of late 17th century oak backstools with fretted crest rails and parquetry inlay. The panel backs are finely carved with floral designs typical of South Lancashire/North Cheshire. See Chinnery pages438-441 for chairs with similar designs. The seats are boarded and the front legs and stretcher have ball and fillet turnings. 40 inches high and 18 1/2 inches high on the seats.
