Forming the centrepiece of a misericord and reshaped to form a bracket, this interesting carving depicts a cat with its back arched in anger. Although cats were considered useful for controlling vermin, they were also thought to be associated with the devil and particularly with witches. France circa 1500. 12 3/4 inches wide x 6 1/2 inches deep x 8 1/2 inches high.
