A fine Charles I oak armchair with superb quality carving, colour and patination. The chair has a deeply carved double scroll crest rail, an applied arcaded panel back, a wrap around seat and gun barrel turned arm supports and front legs. The style of carving and wrap around seat suggest a Salisbury attribution (see Chinnery pages 405-413). By repute once in the Mary Bellis Collection and more recently in a private collection in West Suffolk. 48 inches high, seat height 18 1/2 inches, seat width 24 1/2 inches and depth 14 1/2 inches. Circa 1640.
