A fine 16th/17th century knife with a steel blade and a superbly carved ivory handle depicting Bacchus the god of wine. He sits astride a barrel and in is right hand he holds a cup whilst in his left he has a flask. His hair comprises three bunches of grapes and below him stand four putti. The blade has an indistinct maker's mark. Probably French circa 1600. 9 1/2 inches long and the ivory handle is four inches long.
