This fine early 16th century oak panel is a rare survival from the English Renaissance. It shows three "Romayne" heads in typical profile form and between these it has finely carved designs which include flowers, foliage, a vase and strange bird like creatures. These are remarkably similar to some carved panels which were removed from The Tankard Inn in Ipswich and are illustrated in Cescinsky and Gribble's "Early English Furniture and Woodwork" on page 255. 31 1/2 inches wide x 12 1/2 inches high.
