This very interesting set of four oak polychromed panels are similar in the style of carving to a set of carved panels in Edzell Castle in Scotland. One of the panels depicts the Arms of Scotland prior to the Union when they showed two unicorns rather than a unicorn and a lion. Another unusual panel shows the Eucharist with a cloth over it. The third panel shows St Catherine with her wheel at the base and she is crushing a small figure which represents the Roman emperor Maxentius who executed her. the final panel shows Christ in His Majesty with the Holy Spirit above him. All the panels have some foliage and the thistle of Scotland is pre-eminent. They are of slightly different widths but the height of all of them is roughly 27 1/2 inches. They have the remains of old labels on the back but sadly they are unreadable.
