Dating from about 1540 and probably Flemish, this is a rare surviving example of a "House Altar" which was used for private devotion. The three hinged oak panels depict, centrally, Christ on the Cross with the Virgin Mary and Mary Magdalene, on the left St Mark who is shown with his lion below and on the right St John the Baptist dressed in animal skins holding a lamb and below is a gated prison as his attribute. The tripdytch is in remarkably good condition with just minor losses and metal supports. On the doors it has the initials M.PR. It measures 22 1/2 inches open (11 inches closed) x 15 inches high.
