An oil on canvas portrait of an aristocratic gentleman in typical attire including a lace cloak band. It shows the armorial bearings a Derbyshire family named Kniveton and the sitter is the third baronet Sir Andrew Kniveton who was a Royalist commander and governor of Tutbury Castle in Staffordshire. The carved wood frame bears a reference to Vandyke and the quality suggests that it is from the studio of the famous artist. It measures 34 1/2 inches x 37 1/2 inches across the frame.
