This ash and elm comb back chair was recently acquired from a farmhouse in Yorkshire where it had been for many generations and it seems likely that it was made locally. An article in the Regional Furniture Society 2004 Journal by Adam Bowett entitled "Windsor Chairs from the Vale of York" shows a number of chairs with many very similar features such as the remnants of the original green paint, the profile of the seat, the supports under the arms and the exaggerated rake to the back. 42 1/2 inches high, 17 inches seat height x 22 1/2 inches wide on the arms.
