This unusual carving of a bishop has a strange naive charm and was probably made for a provincial church in somewhere such as Bohemia. The wood is some form of softwood and it is decorated in polychrome. The bishop wears a mitre decorated with cross that is probably of Eastern Orthodox religion, a cloak fastened by a clasp and fringed pallium or scarf. 14 1/2 inches high.
