Full of character and charm, this pair of carved oak heads almost certainly depict a husband and wife and would have adorned the headboard of the tester bed in which the couple slept. Their features are quite distinctive and were probably carved as portraits of the actual couple for whom the bed was made. The carving is quite naive but is of excellent quality. They have a rich dark colour and patina and date to about 1580. They measure about 7 inches in height x 4 1/2 inches wide and are 3 1/2 inches deep
