This superb quality silvered bronze candlestick dates from the latter half of the 17th century and is Spanish in origin. It stands an extraordinary 13 1/2 inches high which is nearly three times the height of conventional examples and in addition it is extremely heavy and can only just be picked up in one hand. The baluster stem is 2 1/2 inches in diameter and the tray base stands on decorated feet. The colour and patination are perfect as it has not been polished. A real collector's piece.
