A FINE QUALITY QUEEN ANNE OAK DRESSING TABLE.

This charming oak dressing table came from the same collection as the bureau and is very similar in style and quality. This long standing collection belonged to an English family who had kept the pieces in their house in Switzerland for generations. It has a thin moulded edge top which is constructed from two planks of well figured oak. Below this are three drawers with applied double mouldings to the edges. The drawers would originally have had drop handles but these were probably changed to plate handles soon after when they became the fashion. They are certainly early and have hand made threads. The lock is original. Below the drawers it has a cockbeaded apron with ogee arches on either side of a kneehole arch. The turned finials are in fruitwood and appear to be original. As with the bureau it has elegantly turned pillar legs terminating on their original toes. The thin peripheral waved stretchers are original with one having a small reinforcing piece under it. Wonderful colour and patination throughout. It measures 31 inches wide x 19 1/2 inches deep x 29 inches high.
