A CHARLES I OAK MURAL GLASS CASE.

Probably dating to about 1640, this mural glass case is probably from a West Country workshop. It has a triangular pedimented top section with three shelves, all which are decorated with castellated edges and chip carving. In addition there is extensive scratchwork decoration to all the front surfaces. It is of simple flat headed nail construction and has holes in the top board, probably to secure it from above. It has never been waxed and has a lovely grey colour. A very similar example was sold by Christie's in the Manor House, Bramcote auction in 2001. Estimated at £4000-£6000 it fetched an astonishing £9987! A further example was sold as part The Roger Warner Collection in 2009 where it made £4450.30 1/2 inches wide x 35 1/2 inches high x 6 inches deep.
