This rare and charming little stool might have been a child's stool or possibly a footstool, either way it is a lovely example. It has a good thick moulded top with a broad moulded edge. The channel moulded rails are decorated with scratchwork chevrons and stamped roses above chip carved edges. The legs are of early form with attractive reverse vase shape and they stand on small turned feet of which one is original and the other three are old replacements. Original pegging throughout and with lovely colour and patination. For similar examples see "Early British Chairs and Seats" by Tobias Jellinek 246-254. The top is 14 inces x 11 1/2 inches and it is 13 1/2 inches high.
