This type of candlestick is generally referred to as "capstan" type. What is not so clear where they were made, probably Continental, their suggested origin varies from Spanish and Italian to Nuremberg. This particular example is illustrated in "Old Domestic Base-Metal Candlesticks" by Ronald Michaelis Fig 66 where he mentions the series of the symmetrically placed punches around the inner edge. He also states that examples with lateral openings such as this are almost certain to be pre 1600 in date.It has a lovely soft colour and measures 4 1/2 inches high.
