Probably dating to about 1730/1740, this attractively shaped ointment jar has a lovely cartouche with a pair of birds on either side of a vase with an inscription reading U AEGIPTIACUM above a winged cherub's head. Egyptian ointment was made from copper acetate, vinegar and honey and was used for the treatment of ulcers. It stands 8 inches high and is in excellent condition.
