This very attractive late 17th century Dutch delft syrup jar is of typical form with a spout and handle and is decorated with a cartouche which reads O OLIARUM. This probably refers to oil made from the fruit and leaves of the olive tree. The cartouche is decorated with a pair of peacocks and a winged cherub's head. A very similar jar with the cartouche S PORTULACAE is illustrated Drey's Apothecary Jars Plate 63C. It has had some restoration to the spout and foot rim and stands just over 7 inches high.
