A rare pair of Limoges enamel panels depicting St. Philip and St. James the lesser. Clearly part of a set twelve apostles, one is inscribed in a ribbon "VII SAINCT PHILIPPE" and below "DE LA VIENDRA ILIUGER LES VIFZ:ET:LES MORTZ:" The bearded figure is shown holding a book. The other is inscribed "VI Y ES MONTE AUX CIEVX ET S??D A LA RE DE DIEU LE PERETOVT PUISSANT. He is shown holding a staff. They measure 9 1/2 inches x 8 inches across the later frames and the enamels are about 6 1/2 inches x 5 1/2 inches. A single similar 16th century panel depicting St. Peter was sold lot 56 at The Adams Collection by Bonhams in 1996 estimate £500-800.
