A wonderfully fierce looking lion's head superbly carved with deep set eyes, an open mouth with four teeth and surrounded by a profuse mane. Hard to date but probably from the first quarter of the 18th century, it is in pine with beautifully patinated original paint. It is about 12 inches square and would look superb over a fireplace.
