A very charming needlework picture depicting a king, probably Charles II, shown seated under a canopy wearing his crown and holding a sceptre with attendants on each side. The picture is in mixed media including stumpwork, silkwork and woolwork, some original and some later. Details include various creatures including birds, animals and insects and plants including a rose and thistle representing England and Scotland. At the base is mermaid holding a comb and looking at herself in a mirror. It measures 26 1/2 inches x 19 1/2 inches across the ebonised and gilt frame.
