A mid 17th century needlework picture comprising a stumpwork tree and foliage and silkwork depicting figures in a landscape with buildings in the background. The main picture appears to show a hanged man being lowered from a tree by a man standing on a ladder whilst two other figures move towards it. Below are three small panels showing flowers and a bird. The hanged man almost certainly depicts Judas Iscariot who hanged himself from a tree in remorse at his act of betrayal. It is in excellent condition and retains vibrant colours. It measures 9 1/2 inches x 10 inches across the 17th century carved oak frame. On the back is written "Old Tudor Needlwork" with the name Admiral Byng below and the price 25 guineas.
