A VERY SMALL JAMES I OAK BOARDED CHEST.

This beautiful little early 17th century oak boarded chest is just 29 inches wide and is constructed from six planks. The top has chip carving to the ends and punch decoration on the front edge. The front board also has chip carving to the sides and is superbly carved with rows of nulling and a central double rose. On either side of there are carved lozenges with roundels and crosses centrally and extensive stamp work. The cut out sides are decorated with lozenge shaped carving with flying pennants. The chest has wonderful colour and patination and is basically in original condition apart from the metalwork. Possibly made for a child, it measures 29 inches wide x 14 inches deep x 19 inches high.
