Probably from the Later Middle Period (c1420-1450) this large Nottingham alabaster fragment depicts The Entombment. See "English Medieval Alabasters" by Francis Cheetham page 267 for a very similar fragment. There was also a fragment depicting The Entombment in the Roger Warner sale in 2009 when it fetched £8750. The figure of Joseph of Arimathaea supports the body of Christ and the figure on the bottom left shows Mary Magdalene with her ointment jar whilst above the body is the figure of the praying Virgin. The carving retains some of its original paint The heavy duty perspex panel measures 19 inches high x 13 inches wide and the removeable plinth is 6 inches deep. The alabaster fragment measures 15 inches high x 10 inches wide x 2 inches deep.
