This substantial and very comfortable early 18th century oak winged armchair or "lambing chair" is almost certainly from Yorkshire as can be identified by the diamond shaped carved motif in the double panelled back which is typical of the county. The boarded seat was always intended to have a cushion and there is a generous rake to the back. The colour is rich and dark which is also typical of Yorkshire furniture. It measures 29 inches across the arms and is 50 inches high. It was sold nearly 20 years ago for £1850 and is now available at a great deal less.
