A late Elizabethan dated coquilla cup.

This lovely cup is made from the shell of a coquilla nut with silver mounts, although the silver is unmarked and should be described as white metal. The cup has filigree handles and foot and the band around the top bears the punched date 1590. The surface of the shell is decorated with carving showing quite primitive looking birds and foliage. 4 inches high.
