A large early 16th century Swabian limewood figure retaining much of its original polychrome decoration. The female saint holds a book and a sword and it is hard to be precise about who she represents. Catherine of Alexandria is often shown holding a book and a sword but traditionally she also has broken wheel. The figure has wonderful movement with deep folds to her cloak and with her head inclined to the right and her weight on her right foot. 32 inches high.
