A stunningly sculptural armchair that probably dates to the second half of the 18th century. Constructed in a variety of indigenous woods including ash and oak, it has a framed slab back and wonderfully worn curved arms which are supported by roughly hewn spindles. The two and half inch thick seat has clearly been used for chopping wood, probably kindling timber and the underside retains the remains of its original stain as do the turned legs which are pegged through to the top of the seat. Despite having lived a hard life, the chair in is untouched condition and is both robust and comfortable. It measures 44 inches high and the seat height is 16 inches. |It is 20 inches wide on the arms.
