At 21 inches high, made to free stand and of canted form to give greater stability, this chest was clearly intended to double as a piece of seating furniture. It is constructed in very well patinated poplar and retains a considerable amount of stain and paint. The plank top has an exaggerated over hang to the sides, is held by its original wire hinges and is secured by a lovely hasp and lockplate. It has Gothic arch shaped aprons to the front and back and the this is repeated on the sides. Excellent untouched colour and condition through. Circa 1560. 44 inches lone x 11 inches deep x 21 inches high.
